Adoption Story
RONNIE (on the right in the photo) was surrendered to BAWCS care in October, when his previous owner’s circumstances changed and they could no longer give him what he needed. As with all dogs that come to us, Ronnie was initially assessed by our dog trainer Sahil from Elite Canines Training.
Ronnie was not listed straight away for adoption as he needed several sessions of training to address his reactivity to other dogs and also his pulling on lead when walked. Three sessions down, our smart little man was ready to meet prospective new adopters with Sahil impressed with how quickly this little dog responded to training.
Little dogs are in great demand for adoption so it was no surprise we received a record amount of applications for Ronnie. With BAWCS however, it is not ‘first in best dressed’ and our Adoption Committee (which includes Sahil) assessed carefully all applications and ‘meet and greets’ were arranged.
There was one young couple that stood out. They were looking for a companion for the little dog they already had and also to complete their family overall.
There is a process to follow when introducing dogs to each other with lots of factors being taken into account. The initial meet and greet with this young couple’s dog looked promising so a 2nd meet and greet was arranged to progress the introduction and today, an adoption was formalised!
Heading off into the sunset, this new happy family have advice and guidance on how to make sure these two new dogs get along in the new home environment thanks to Sahil, who’s business card is given in BAWCS Adoption Kit for any issues/questions with the settling in process.
Have a great new life Ronnie, you certainly deserve it and we look forward to updates from your new ‘parents’ as to how you are settling in.
